Productive vs Unproductive Mornings; No Guilt

Sometimes, productive mornings are hard to come by for me. I’ve been trying my best to follow the morning ritual I mentioned in my previous post, but some mornings are just very difficult. Other times, I go weeks with very productive mornings and I wonder how I could ever be unproductive at all.

THIS morning, though, I woke up around 5:15am, did some laundry, drank my water, made my coffee, rearranged the linen closet, cleaned up the kitchen, made breakfast!!!, and sat down to watch some Hulu before work. SUPER productive and I’m very proud of myself – so much so that I watched some TV.

On days where mornings are a little more difficult, I like to allow myself to understand that, even though I had a desire to wake up early and get things done, I need to listen to my body when it tells me that I need rest.

This weekend, I had a lot of stress because of car issues and long story short, the mechanic that did work on it last weekend messed up and my car got towed. Luckily it was fixable and no real damage was done, but it was still a lot of stress on my body and mind as I was experiencing that.

Sunday, I slept for probably about 3 hours in the middle of the day, AFTER sleeping in until 9am. I felt guilty for it because I knew I had other things I needed to get done, but I realized that I wouldn’t be sleeping that much if my body didn’t require it. I was able to rid myself of that guilt because I was listening to my body.

In the end, it’s okay if you sometimes have unproductive mornings and struggle to do things you’ve been meaning to get to. It’s okay to sleep in the middle of the day if your body is telling you it’s needed. It’s okay to take a beat to relax, listen to mind and body, destress however you need to, and get back to being productive when you feel like it’s better timing – with NO guilt.

Learn to listen to your mind and body, and you’ll be surprised at what comes from it! And remember, be kind to yourself. You’re not a robot, so don’t expect perfect outcomes as if you were one.

Let me know how you like to destress below 🙂
